Rhubarb Recipes - Tart
Rhubarb has been grown in garden patches in Southern and Northern Ireland for generations. Before it was introduced into western Europe it was grown in Russia and was popular in China for many centuries. What makes rhubarb popular? First of all, its taste and texture. It makes an excellent ingredient for a number of dishes, especially deserts. Beyond that it is very nutritious. It is high in Vitamins C and K. One serving provides more than a quarter of the recommended daily allowance for vitamin K. it is also rich in calcium and potassium helping to build stronger bones.
It is especially popular in deserts.
This recipe here will bring to your kitchen a taste of Northern Ireland and is sure to become a favourite.
Rhubarb Tart Recipe - Ingredients
1 kg rhubarb
1 egg white
150 grams of sugar
Wash the rhubarb well and chop it into small pieces. Put the chopped rhubarb and the sugar into a pot with a minimum of water and stir over a low fire until the rhubarb becomes soft and tender. Beat the egg and add it to the pot.
Allow the mixture to cool. Take ta tart tin and lay the pastry over it. You use one larger tart tin or several smaller ones. You can use ready made pastry. Over, preferably, you can make it yourself using our own recipes.
Once you have put the pastry in the tart tin add the mixture. Cover it with the another layer of pastry and place in the oven. Cook it at 200 degrees centigrade until the pastry takes on a golden brown colour.
Your tart is ready. Enjoy!
